marco polo

March 13, 2011

shebreathes is one of those blogs that’s always ahead of the curve, featuring lesser-known designers whose collections are much more refreshing than the same prada and marni and alexander wang that is perpetuated throughout the web ad nauseum. she recently posted the s/s 2011 collection from italian designer, marco corso, an unbelievable celebration of color and texture and deconstruction.

i don’t think i’ve seen more vibrant, elegant images of the shredded slouchy trend. the palette of electric blues, silky chartreuse, apricot and gold is exactly what i want to wear this season- the colors really bring everything to life! loving how he incorporated various elements of the collared shirt (collar as a scarf, cut-out sleeves & cuffs, gold vest/suspenders??); the mixture of the metallic leather with the airy silks; and the spiderweb and bleached out knits. together the collection harnesses spontaneity and has an “i- got-really-frustrated-at-my-sewing-machine-but-actually-made-something-fucking-awesome” feeling to it. the yellow eye-corner makeup is a bit sickly, but somehow works with the whole vibe. gotta keep my eye on him for sure…molto bene!
