hotel party!

May 27, 2011

wow, there were three art fairs in san francisco this past weekend! that’s a whole lotta ART! the people’s gallery was in room 52 at ArtPad SF at the was-cool-in-the-90s-and-is-apparently-cool-again phoenix hotel in the tenderloin. it was the seemingly younger and more alternative fair in comparison to the massive fort mason convention and heavily marketed (minus the vowels!) artMRKT. we set up the BIG THINGS SHOP alongside bob newland’s rodeo photos and orland richards’ paintings, which worked surprisingly well together to create an eclectic & inviting atmosphere in the room.

the most prevalent comments throughout the weekend were: “this is how miami used to be!” and “this is so much better than the other fairs!” i’m not sure if it was the pool and palm trees or just the younger, party-oriented crowd, but it certainly had a miami feel to it, despite the wind and cold weather! although we didn’t leave the room too much, the best part was meeting all kinds of different people enjoying the work and getting familiar with the local galleries and artists. neil young even came in our room! how cool!

special thanks to jana at people’s gallery for inviting me to do the pop-up and for everyone who got something special from the shop! don’t forget to stop by and visit the gallery sometime, they’re at 20th and folsom in between kadist sf and the thing quarterly!

Wish I hadn’t missed room 52 at ArtPad. ARTMKT was a bit of a snore.
