chicago! you are my home! i only see you twice a year, but i always know that even if we don’t talk in between, we’re still cool. you’re fickle when it comes to your weather, but it’s usually an exciting change from california and a chance to employ a new wardrobe! you are so huge and it takes so long to get across you by bus or train, but i find that charming. it’s fun to chat with and and observe everyone in transit. i am always impressed by your museums, theaters, and your mountains of heavy duty food (the only mountains for miles!). your people are so friendly and midwestern, so proud and hardworking, so tough and brave to bear the seasons for a city they love.
i spent the past week visiting my family, the graham foundation, the art institute, the intuit show of outsider and folk art, second city, & occupy chicago. i saw my little brother’s band play, got some $3 sneakers at village discount outlet, and caught up with friends who i only get to see once or twice a year. i also had a great time selling a select group of pieces from the BIG THINGS SHOP at dose market, a monthly boutique marketplace with some really rad vendors run by a few talented and visionary chicago ladies!
and as the backdrop to everything were the vivid autumn leaves and the kind of air that doesn’t exist in california- crispy! it was so eye-opening to see trees in colors that i haven’t seen in 3 or 4 years- what a wonderful reminder of time and seasons!
