because of the BBC event, i didnt have as much time or energy to explore as i usually do in chicago. so i mostly hung around my mom’s in lincoln park, walked the dog, went to the dentist, and tied up ends for the party. i did manage to see a good group of friends for dinner at sultan’s market; spend an afternoon at the MCA; have a charming french birthday dinner with my family; and watch the superbowl with my brother (i totally guessed the gatorade was going to be purple…and it was!). all in all it was too fast (as all trips are) and im looking forward to coming home again soon.
i was also in town for my grandmother’s 92nd birthday. she is getting quite old and it’s hard to see such an independent, strong woman struggle so much against the deterioration of her own body. i miss her so much when i am in california, so it was was nice just to sit by her side and listen to stories. she is still so funny and clever and has the greatest smile even though she’s just in bed all day. love you, grandma!

Ohhh, are those Swirlz cupcakes? Sooo good.
