for those of you who have been following the blog for the past few years, you might remember my first ever BIG THINGS AHEAD interview with artist, sarah dougherty. nico and i went to north carolina in 2009 and stayed with sarah in greensboro, who was about to leave for los angeles to start her MFA program at UCLA. speaking with her about her experience on the border of two different lives provided a lot of the original inspiration for me to start BIG THINGS.
now, three years later, she is graduating from her MFA program!!! we don’t see each other much, but i am so proud of the work she has done not only for herself, but for the latino community, for youth, and for art education. thank you sarah for continuing to prove to us that art, politics, our personal histories, and a sustainable, loving lifestyle are all intertwined and possible!
for those in los angeles, make sure to check out her MFA show tomorrow at UCLA’s new wight gallery alongside other program grads. visit her website, room portraits, for more of her work, and her BTA interview to read her thoughts before she started the program! CONGRATULATIONS, SARAH!
