Blackstock’s Collections

May 9, 2012

I brought my copy of Blackstock’s Collections to tutoring today and my student got a kick out of Gregory’s drawings of collections of items- shoes, noisemakers, animals, hats, warplanes, etc. She also then read ALL the names of bees aloud. Gregory Blackstock is a Seattle-based artist, accordion player, singer, ex-potwasher and autistic savant. His ability to draw all of these things so immaculately, precisely, and from memory is absolutely incredible- AND he can draw them over and over and over again in the exact way. If you haven’t already, check out some of his drawings from Garde Rail Gallery, formerly in Seattle and now based in Austin. Thank you, Gregory, for showing us the capabilities of the MIND!!!

Seeing this work in person at the Kohler Art Center in Wisconsin was so rad. Such a great thing to bring to class!
